Prayer Chaplain Program
We are committed to reaching out in prayer to comfort and support our congregation.
Completing the Prayer Chaplain training and
“being” a Prayer Chaplain is transformational soul work.
As you discover your greatness and the greatness of others, we are here to support you as you make this next step on your spiritual journey.
We invite you to prayerfully consider becoming a Prayer
Chaplain. It is a unique service that differs from many of the other volunteer opportunities in terms of commitment level and responsibilities. The following information is provided as a basic introduction to the program concept and how
it works.
What is a Prayer Chaplain?
A Prayer Chaplain is:
1. Someone who will create and hold a spiritual space with you;
2. Someone who will lovingly listen to you;
3. Someone who will pray with you;
4. Someone who holds
what is shared in the strictest confidence.
What is the time commitment?
The Prayer Chaplain team is a service opportunity for congregants who are truly looking to take the next step in the development of their spiritual maturity and level of commitment in their spiritual growth. As such, Prayer Chaplains are required to be an active member of the church and to make a one-year commitment to fulfilling their responsibilities as a Prayer Chaplain. These responsibilities include (but aren’t limited to:
1. Serving at 1 service a month (available for one-to-one prayer following services);
2. One 2-hour Prayer Chaplain meeting per month;
3. Wellness calling to members once a month;
4. Annual intensive training
How does a Prayer Chaplain differ from a Chaplain in a hospital or care facility.
Unlike hospital Chaplains, Prayer Chaplains are not ordained or trained to counsel people. Prayer Chaplains are trained to do three things only: hold spiritual space, listen, and pray. Prayer Chaplains are not trained to “minister” to the community at large, but are trained as a lay resource to help meet the pastoral care needs within their church.
How do I get more information?
If the Prayer Chaplain Program resonates with you and feels like an opportunity you would like to explore further, please plan to attend one of our Prayer Chaplain Orintation meetings scheduled for Sunday, February 5, at 1:30 PM, and Sunday, February 12, at 1:30 PM. Attending one of these orientation meetings is mandatory for all those who ultimately do decide to take this next step. Please note the training schedule provided so you can update your 2012 calendar as all the training is mandatory.
If you have any questions please call Sherryl Andrus at
